would like to put a call out to those of you who are interested in
getting involved with UCLA's most chido newsmagazine "La Gente de Aztlan
Para Los Pueblos de las Americas" This newsmagazine has been around for a
little over 33 years and is dedicated to giving a voice to the Latin@/Chican@
comunidad in issues that are affecting raza both on campus and in
nuestros barrios as well as people of color everywhere. La Gente addresses
issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality because we understand the
intersections of oppresssion. |

Tuesday, April 6, 2004: MEChA de UCLA is going to have another torta sale at Campbell Hall!! We'll be selling tortas from 11:am to 2:pm, for 5 dollars and they come with chips and a drink. Please come by to help, we need help starting from 10 until 3pm. If you can't help, please come and support and spread the word!!!! Thanks! Raza Day Committee Also, don't forget that the Volunteer trainings if you would like to lead a tour or Tlatokan circle are on Wed. Night at 8:30 and Thursday Night at 8:pm. We'll also be stuffing folders and other work party stuff on those days, so please come by if you can. |

Lalo also illustrated “Latino USA: A Cartoon History”, was the co-founder of the satirical Latino-zine POCHO and has received numerous awards including his fourth Southern California Journalism Award for Best Cartoon in Weekly Papers. Thursday, April 15, 2004: UCLA Latino Alumni Association is hosting a Networking Night on Thursday April 15th, and we would like all of you to attend to interact with professionals and students from various fields, from graduate schools to various professions. This is a great opportunity to talk to someone from a field that you maybe interested in and ask them questions. We are scheduled to have individuals from fields such as medicine (medical students), urban planning, the government sector, education, entrepreneurship, social welfare, banking, business school, and various others, ready to talk to you about what it takes to get in those fields and what their experiences are. This event is taking place on campus, at the James West Alumni Center from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Appetizers and light refreshments will be served. Saturday, April 17th, 2004: UCLA's 6th Annual Festival Latino "El Ritmo de Nuestra Cultura" From 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. At Wilson Plaza on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. The festival is is an event celebrating the Latino culture through music, food, dance, cultural awareness, and art among other things. It is a FREE event put on in April by the Latin American Students Association (LASA) at UCLA. As a student group with a history of providing programs for the Los Angeles community, and promoting the academic success of UCLA students, LASA's goal is to reach out to the community in a moment of celebration and social responsibility. LASA hopes to provide the UCLA community as well as the greater Los Angeles area with an opportunity to enjoy Latino music, food, art and dancing in an attempt to promote cultural understanding as well as celebration. This event will bring together senior and up-and-coming scholars to examine the state of Chicano music and musicology.
