The UCLA César E. Chávez Center Spirit Award
In the Fall of 1999, the Chicano/Latino staff and faculty supported the idea that UCLA should host a celebration to honor the legacy of César E. Chávez. The celebration would serve to bring together the UCLA community as well as their friends and the community at large to remember a respected Chicano leader.
This effort gave birth to the UCLA César E. Chávez Spirit Award, an event to present the award, and the development of student support and scholarships. The presentation of the award has become an annual event that recognizes individuals who have, through their actions and connection to the Chicano/Latino community, endeavored to follow the ideals that guided Chávez' struggle.
