Welcome to Our Department

The mission of the UCLA César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o Studies is to train a new generation of scholars to research and analyze the life, history, and culture of Mexican-origin people within the United States, as well as of other Latino/a and indigenous populations in the Americas. Addressing local, national, and transnational contexts, the Chicana/o Studies curriculum at UCLA explores race, class, gender, and sexuality paradigms as they have shaped the history of the field, as well as new directions in the study of Chicana/os and Latina/os, including 
  1. Border and Transnational Studies;
  2. Expressive Arts;
  3. History, Language, and Culture of the Americas;
  4. Labor, Law, and Policy Issues

Congratulations!  The Faculty and Staff of the César E. Chávez Chicana and Chicano Studies Department are looking forward to sharing this wonderful occasion with you.

Our DEPARTMENTAL GRADUATION celebration will take place on

Saturday, June 14, 2014
10:00 am -12:00 pm
Covel Commons, UCLA

 

*This is the only graduation ceremony at which you’ll be individually recognized.

The Departmental Celebration will include:

• Procession of faculty, instructional staff, guests and graduating majors and minors 
• Naming of each graduating student (majors and minors)  
• Recognition of honors thesis  
• Each student will have 1 ½  minute to say a few words
• Closing remarks by the chair
• Group picture at end of ceremony

MECHA CALMECAC Hiring Flyer 2014

To our esteemed undergraduate students,

MEChA Calmecac is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 academic year. MEChA Calmecac was the first Raza student-initiated, student-run and student-funded retention project in the country. Today, MEChA Calmecac is part of the Student Retention Center, which serves as a focal point for student activism and retention, working alongside other like-minded projects representing the retention needs of students of color on this campus. 


Applications are due Tuesday, April 15, 2014 by 11:59 via email to rc.mechadeucla@gmail.com and an information session will be hosted on Monday, April 10th 3-4pm in SAC Basement Conference Room 1.
