Roybal Foundation $5000 Internship, 2012-2013

$5,000 paid internship opportunity for Fall 2012-Spring 2013. 
Schedule: 14-20 hrs per week*

The Lucille and Edward Roybal Foundation provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students by funding an internship program placing students in local universities' health care facilities in the greater East Los Angeles area. The following internship opportunities are available for the upcoming academic year:

  1. Familia Unida Living with Multiple Sclerosis (FULWMS) was incorporated as a 501-c3 nonprofit in 1998 to provide unconditional love, hope, and support to those living with Multiple Sclerosis and other disabilities to help maximize their quality of life. Located in the heart of East Los Angeles FULWMS upholds its solid commitment to offer innovative and comprehensive services that respect and value the diverse populations through family centered service models and programs. 

    • 16-20 hours/week
    • Students with interest in health, social services, or social work preferred
    • Intern will work within clinical services setting or organizational development
  2. 

Bienvenidos is a compassionate community of care dedicated to healing children, strengthening families, and transforming communities. Our many locations provide a full spectrum of services including medical, mental health, youth services, violence prevention and intervention, family preservation and more.

    • 14-16 hours/week
    • Students with interest in health, social services, or social work preferred
    • Internship placements are flexible
  3. 

Alta Med has delivered quality care to the underserved communities of Southern California for more than 40 years. AltaMed is the largest independent Federally Qualified Community Health Center in the U.S. delivering more than 855,000 annual patient visits through its 43 sites in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

    • 4-16 hours/week

    • Students with interest in government, public policy, or political science preferred

General Qualifications:

  • UCLA Undergraduate or graduate student interested in serving under served communities

  • Be willing to commitment to a minimum of 14-20 hours per week for a 3 quarter commitment*

  • Minimum GPA 3.0

  • Strong verbal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership

  • Reliable transportation

  • Demonstrated experience in working with ethnically diverse clientele. Bilingual speaking ability preferred.

  • Understanding, sensitivity, and commitment to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of the community
