February 9, 2001: A welcome reception for the symposium participants of the Otro Corazon: Queering the Art of Aztlan, called Bienvenida@SPARC, will be hosted by LGBT Studies and SPARC, the Social and Public Art Resource Center in Venice. This event will take place from 6:30 - 9 and will feature readings by Cherrie Moraga, Emma Perez, Francisco J. Alarcon and Alicia Gaspar de Alba. In honor of Valentine's Day, the UCLA LGBT Studies Program and La Familia de UCLA are proud to present a one-of -a-kind symposium on Saturday, February 10, 2001, called “Otro Corazon: Queering the Art of Aztlán”. This event will feature Queer Chicana/o visual artists, writers, performers, and critics who will be speaking about love, race and sexuality. Three roundtables and an evening performance followed by a reception. The symposium will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Ackerman Student Union on Saturday, February 10th, from 9:30 to 6:30. Reception follows. Participants include: awarding winning muralist, Alma López; lesbian writers, Cherrie Moraga and Emma Perez; L.A.'s "queer performing señorita," herself, Monica Palacios; MacArthur "genius" grant recipient, Luis Alfaro; gay Chicano writers Francisco Alarcón and Ricardo Bracho; critics Alicia Arrizon from U.C. Riverside and Catriona Esquibel from New Mexico State University; and others. The Event is Free and open to the public. Please announce as widely as possible.
